Two Roads is a tribute to pioneering environmentalist Rachel Carson. A steel framework forms a room in an urban meadow that is incomplete or disintegrating. Semi-mirrored glass combines reflection and transparency with text passages from Carson’s writing, like pages of an unfinished book. Some bays frame the plantings as additional “pages,” like illustrations for the text. Overlapping dichroic glass letters on the focal point panels break the light into spectral components that change with the perspective of the viewer and the time of day or night. The studio collaborated closely with Oculus Landscape Architecture on the design of this artwork for Home Properties' Ripley Street North project in Silver Spring, Maryland.
